Today Bishop Toups went to the Neches River to ask God’s Blessings during this hurricane season, especially with Ida heading to Louisiana. He asked for God and the Holy Spirit to dissipate the storms, for the preservation of life & property and for the safety and protection of all in harm’s way.

Pastoral care – whether in a parish or in the community – is important to Catholic faithful. Through the years Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, in collaboration with the clergy has ministered to and provided pastoral care to the thousands of Catholic faithful in Southeast Texas.

It is with sorrow that we tell you that Msgr. James Vanderholt, retired priest of our diocese, has passed away August 11, 2021, at the age of 88. When the arrangements are complete, we will post them.

All services will be held in Family Life Center at Immaculate Conception-St. Peter the Apostle Church in Groves. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 11, 5-7 p.m. with a Rosary by Groves KCs at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, August 12, at 10 a.m. A meal will follow at the Groves KC Hall.

“God has put me where He wanted me and He has blessed me tremendously throughout all of these experiences,” Msgr. Kenneth Greig once said of his priestly ministry in Southeast Texas. Msgr. Greig died August 8, 2021, at the age of 80.

“As long as I’ve thought about what I wanted to do with my life, it’s always involved service,” Msgr. William “Bill” Manger said in an interview in 2013. “I always had an interest in working for the Church in different areas.” And he did just that throughout his 59 years as a priest.
