“During this Lent season, we should pray more intensely, fast and give alms,” Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, said at the Ash Wednesday Mass at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica on Feb. 26. Following Mass, Bishop Guillory blessed and distributed ashes that were recently created by the burning of palms used in last year’s Palm Sunday services.

“It gives me great pleasure to dedicate the Market to HOPE building and to allow people to eat,” Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, said. Bishop Guillory blessed and dedicated the Market to HOPE food pantry following Mass Feb. 23 at Our Mother of Mercy, Beaumont.

Bishop Curtis Guillory was in Houston Feb. 20 along with several Southeast Texans to assist Catholic Extension in celebrating the life of  Father Anthony “T.J.” Martinez, S.J., who helped establish Cristo Rey  Jesuit College Prep, an innovative high school that serves economically challenged children.

“Today as we gather, we pray in thanksgiving for Larry’s life and his everlasting life,” Msgr. Jeremiah McGrath said about Deacon Laurence “Larry” David. The Mass of Christian Burial for Deacon David took place Feb. 21 at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica, Beaumont.

Deacon Laurence “Larry” David died February 12, 2020, at the age of 74. A gathering of Deacon David’s family and friends will be 5-8 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, February 20, 2020, at St. Mary Church, 912 West Cherry Avenue, Orange.

The Serra Clubs of Beaumont and Port Arthur held its Annual Appreciation Dinner for Religious at St. Jude Thaddeus, Beaumont, Feb. 13. The dinner honored all priests, deacons, sisters and brothers in this diocese and other places around the world.

In January Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, and the other Bishops of Region X (Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas) completed their ad limina visit to the Vatican. Bishop Guillory recently sat with ETC’s Karen Gilman to talk about the visit.

Dolan said Feb. 10.

“You are never too young to be a difference or the light of Christ,” Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, said. Bishop Guillory celebrated Scouts Sunday Mass at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica on Feb. 2 in collaboration with the Youth Ministry and the Catholic Committee on Scouting.
