More than 200 high school teens from across the diocese attended the annual Quest Retreat Jan. 26-28 at Lake Tomahawk Retreat center in Livingston. What a weekend it was! Following the theme “Anchored in Christ,” teens dove into sessions based on how Christ has been their anchor through early childhood, high school, and the most recent devastation of Harvey along with powerful guy and girl sessions, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and Mass.
Around 200 catechists, parish catechetical leaders, youth ministers, RCIA team members and others gathered at Our Mother of Mercy in Beaumont on Saturday, January 20. This conference “Called, Formed, & Sent 2018” had as its theme, “Living as Missionary Disciples.” The conference included a track in Spanish.
The Bishop’s Faith Appeal Leadership Workshop guided parish leaders on how to work with carrying out the 2018 BFA campaign Jan. 22 at the St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica in Beaumont. Education weekend is Jan. 27-28.

Deacon Wilbert A. Wycliff was remembered as a true man of service during a funeral Mass celebrating his life at St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Dayton Jan. 20. Deacon Wycliff died Jan. 5. He was 99. “He lived 99 years and covered a lot of territory, dangerous territory,” Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, said during his homily.
A Catholic Charismatic Renewal will be held Feb. 9 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Culotta Hall at St. Jude Thaddeus Church in Beaumont. In this gathering for song, praise, worship, and fellowship, Father Polycarp Otieno, FMH, will speak on the theme of “Our mission to announce peace” drawn from the Gospel of Luke (10:1-20).
Altar servers from parishes in the Diocese of Beaumont received training at the Catholic Pastoral Center Jan. 10 to become Episcopal Altar Servers. They learned some of the different steps that take place when serving with Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, at special liturgies at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica and other places.
Three buses filled with 165 youth and chaperones traveled from the Diocese of Beaumont to Incredible Pizza in Conroe Jan. 5 for the Junior High Blowout, a community-building event for grades six, seven, and eight.
The annual diocesan commemoration of the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was held Jan. 6 on the Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord at St. James Parish in Port Arthur. The Feast of the Epiphany celebrates the Light being manifested to all nations, all members of the same Body of Christ.
National Migration Week 2018 will take place January 7-13. This year’s theme is “Many Journeys, One Family.” The theme coincides with the Caritas Internationalis migration campaign entitled “ Share the Journey .” National Migration Week provides an opportunity to raise awareness about the contributions of migrants, including refugees, and victims of human trafficking in our communities.
Deacon Wilbert A. Wycliff died Jan. 5. He was 99. Deacon Wycliff, who died at his daughter’s home in Erwinville, La., served as deacon at St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Dayton from the early 1980s until 1998.
St. Anne Parish is inviting Catholics from all parishes in the Diocese of Beaumont to its Winter Mission Jan. 14-18 to explore the symbols of the Catholic faith on a journey to conversion. The mission, presented by Redemptorist missionary Father Peter Schavitz, C.Ss.R, will feature an evening service at 6:30 p.m. all five days, with an 8:15 a.m. Mass with a homily Jan. 15-17.
