Dewane of Venice, Florida, Chairman of the U.S. Bishops’ Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development, called on the Senate to fix problems with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in a more narrow way, rather than repeal it without an adequate replacement.

WASHINGTON— Over 750,000 youth have received protection from Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) since its inception by the Department of Homeland Security in 2012. While DACA provides no legal status, it does provide recipients with a temporary reprieve from deportation and employment authorization for legal work opportunities in the United States.

The rocks that the campers painted Sunday evening created our altar for Mass; the rocks represent the individuality of each camper and the spirit they bring with them to camp this week.
Sunday, July 16, 2017, we kicked off our second week of Summer Camp with our staff ready for the arrival of our campers. Our evening of registration was HOT but it was directly from the rays of God’s sunshine all around us!

Thursday our fun activities, classes & faith-filled week continued. One of our many sessions campers were able to attend was a Spanish class where they learned Spanish and made a piñata. At the end of the class rotations campers were able to take a swing to see who could bust the piñata filled with yummy candy!

Catholic Extension announced today that the Missionary Carmelites of St. Teresa who minister in three parishes in the western part of the Diocese of Beaumont are finalists for its annual Lumen Christi Award.
The next training session for volunteers to assist in Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas’ Elijah’s Place program for grieving children is set to begin on Monday, July 17, 2017. The full training of volunteers is conducted over the course of five mandatory sessions, as well as participation in one session of the Diocese of Beaumont’s Protecting God’s Children orientation.
