Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, offered his condolences and prayers to the family and friends of Cardinal Bernard F. Law, who passed away early Dec. 20. Bishop Guillory also offered his prayers for the survivors of sexual abuse by clergy and those whose lives were impacted by their crime.

WASHINGTON— After the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate passed The Tax Reform and Jobs Act, Bishop Frank J. Dewane of Venice, Florida, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development, drew attention to unacceptable problems that remain, and called on President Trump to insist that Congress fix them before he signs a bill into law.

“As the world goes through turmoil, conflicts, indifference, divisions, and natural disasters, let us ask Mary to intercede for us fully aware, of course, that we must do our part,” said Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, during his homily Dec. 12 at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica, Beaumont.

The Texas State Council of the Knights of Columbus has donated $100,000 to help rebuild St. Mary Parish in Fannett, the second parish in the Diocese of Beaumont to receive $100,000 in Hurricane Harvey relief funding from the Knights of Columbus in the last two weeks.

Parishioners at St. Therese, the Little Flower of Jesus, in the Port Acres area of Port Arthur, were startled Monday morning, Dec. 11, when they saw that someone had spray painted on the side of their church.

Parishioners took part in the Guadalupe pilgrimage Dec. 9 that started at St. Joseph Church in Port Arthur and made its way to Queen of Vietnam Church before ending with a Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.

St. Pius X Church and St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica in Beaumont teamed up with the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation Dec. 9 to put on a Christmas toy give-away to help hundreds of families and children affected by the flooding from Hurricane Harvey The foundation, which has stepped in to help out with disaster relief following Superstorm Sandy and Hurricane Katrina, honors the sacrifice of New York Fire Department firefighter Stephen Siller, who died trying to save lives at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

The Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima is on a tour through Texas including stops at St. James Church in Port Arthur, St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica in Beaumont, Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Vidor and Infant Jesus Church in Lumberton Dec. 11-14.

The Jefferson County Crime Victims Coalition honored crime victims Dec. 5 at the Tree of Angels ceremony at the Jefferson County Courthouse in Beaumont. This is the 17th year of the event that provides people a moment to trim a tree at the courthouse for those who lost someone to crime and those whose are victims of crime.

The Bishop’s Faith Appeal Leadership Dinner ushered in the 2018 BFA campaign Dec. 3 at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites in Beaumont. “Empowered to Share” serves as the theme for the new campaign. The dinner brought together parish leaders from across the Diocese of Beaumont to partner with Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, to coordinate financial support in their parishes for diocesan ministries that depend greatly on BFA funding and serve more than 110,000 people in Southeast Texas.
