Local charities are now benefitting from the St. Joseph Altar celebration.
St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica pastor Msgr. Jerry McGrath and St. Joseph Altar Committee chair Linda Domino presented checks during a ceremony June 13 to award proceeds from the 2018 St. Joseph’s Altar event.
“That’s why we do this work,” said Domino. “We know we’re putting money in good hands with these organizations.”
“Bless all those who live on our streets and experience dire poverty,” Msgr. McGrath said. “We also want to bless all those who came to St. Joseph’s Day and all the workers who worked St. Joseph’s Day.”
The St. Joseph Altar event was held in March. It raised money through the sale of spaghetti plates and baked goods to help feed those in need through local charities.
A check for $8,000 each was donated to Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas, Some Other Place, Southeast Texas Food Bank, St. Katharine Drexel Humanitarian Society and St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica Youth Ministry for their Mission Trip Project.
Event volunteers were also recognized during the ceremony.
