Kitty Rachal, deacon’s wife, dies October 27 Katie (Kitty) Ruth Rachal, 93, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Friendship Haven Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Friendswood. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Woodville. Presiding will be Deacon David Luther. Kitty was the eighth child born to parents Dueroy and Katy McElory Rains on September 19, 1929, in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana. She was a former longtime resident of Ivanhoe Lakes in Woodville before moving to the Houston area to be closer to family. She enjoyed sewing, crafting and her cat Kaley. She was brought up in the Presbyterian Church but later converted to the Catholic faith. Her heart was set on helping others to make their lives easier. She held many positions within the churches she attended including member of Court St. Rita’s Catholic Daughters of America, Secretary and later President of the Ladies Altar Society and Secretary of the Assumption Catholic Ladies Altar Society and eventually becoming President of the Society. Kitty was also a dedicated volunteer for various organizations including St. Elizabeth Hospital through the American Red Cross Grey Ladies Association and the American Heart Association in Beaumont. She was a softball player, baseball mom and avid fan. She put her skills to use as a baseball mom with all three boys and also coached her husband’s minor league team to victory against a previously unbeaten team. She and her husband, Paul owned and operated Paul Rachal Plumbing and Heating where she took care of the office which was in their home so she could be home when the kids came home from school. She is preceded in death by the love of her life, husband of 60 years, Deacon Paul Rachal and their oldest son Ronald Paul Rachal, five sisters Maurice Vickers, Murline Rains, Nadine Thompson, Katherine Thompson, and Hazel Davis, and two brothers Earl Rains and Nuell Lee Rains. She is survived by her daughter, Melanie Barrett and husband Danny of Houston; sons, Michael Rachal and wife Jane of Conroe, and Phillip Rachal and wife Patricia of Sacramento, Calif.; five grandchildren, Andrew, Brandon, Heather, Justin and Tiffany and four great grandchildren Hudson, Isiah, Judah and Elliott. The family would like to give special thanks to the caregivers at Friendship Haven for the love and affection they showed our mother during her time in their care. Memorials may be made to the youth group of Our Lady of the Pines Church, Woodville. Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville.
