Prayers for healing, for peace in our world, for financial worries, for broken relationships were among the thousands of prayer requests that were placed on the altar of St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica on Aug. 11.
Throughout the year, the faithful have been filling out prayer intention cards as part of Bishop’s Faith Appeal. The theme of the appeal this year is “Act Justly, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly.” At the annual Intentions Mass, parish BFA chairs or their representatives brought in baskets piled high with prayer cards and added to a large basket on the altar. In addition, ribbons representing prayers were collected at the Christus Live Well Women’s Conference in May. Prayers for peace were brought forward by Beaumont Police Officers.
Mass began with a procession of representatives of the diocesan ministries that are supported by BFA.
In his homily, Bishop Curtis Guillory reminded the congregation that, as proclaimed in Matthew’s gospel, that we must forgive each other from our hearts if we seek God’s forgiveness of our own sins. The cards will now be taken to Bishop Curtis Guillory’s chapel located in his home so that he may continue to pray for the intentions of the faithful.
A reception was held in the Cathedral Center following Mass.
