Please keep in your prayers Deacon Dallas Broussard who died Sunday, October 23, 2022. Deacon Broussard was 82 and is survived by his wife, Carolyn.
Visitation is set for 5-8 pm, Thursday, October 27, at Melancon’s Funeral Home, 1605 Avenue H, Nederland. A vigil and Rosary will be at 6 pm. His funeral will be at 10:30 am, Friday, October 28, at St. Charles Borromeo, 130 Hardy Avenue, Nederland. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Cemetery, Port Neches.
Deacon Broussard’s survivors include his wife Carolyn Grossman Broussard; sons, Greg Broussard, Brian Broussard and his wife, Stefney; stepdaughters, Melissa Mann and Monica Ewing and her husband, David; stepson, Gary Deese and his wife, Rebecca; Eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Deacon Broussard was ordained on June 13, 1992, by Bishop Bernard Ganter. This was the third class of the permanent diaconate for the Beaumont Diocese. Deacon Broussard served as a deacon at St. Charles for 23 years. During this time he served in a number of ways with his wife Carolyn joining him in many of them.
Dallas Broussard was born April 12, 1940, in Abbeville, Louisiana, to Florence (Stansbury) and Warren Broussard. When he was one the family moved to Port Arthur where he attended St. Mary Elementary, Franklin, Woodrow Wilson and graduated from Thomas Jefferson in 1958. After high school Broussard attended Port Arthur College before he served six months active duty in the Army which was followed by eight years in the National Guard.
He worked for several companies, KU Davis and Roy Tillers Grocery Stores, Gulf Port Ship Yard, on road construction on Texas 73 and for KCS. Broussard also attended the Academy for the Department of Public Safety. He then went to work for DuPont for 35 years in the instrument and Electrical Department. During that time he married and divorced and had two sons, Greg Broussard and Brian Broussard.
In 1971 he met and married his wife of 51 years, Carolyn Grossman Broussard who had three children, Melissa Warren Mann, Monica Warren Ewing and Gary Deese.
Deacon Broussard and Carolyn worked together in prison ministry for 14 years, they participated in the Starting Over in Christ ministry and taught Confirmation classes for 10 years. Deacon Broussard also was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul and the Knights of Columbus. During his years of ministry he oftentimes visited the sick and the homebound and was active in the RCIA for several years. In the community he served on the Board of Appeals for the City of Nederland for 15 years and was chair for 12.
His hobbies included shrimping and fishing. When the children were young he enjoyed going to the beach and riding trail bikes at Boykin Springs. He enjoyed camping trips to Inks Lake and Lake Rayburn and Wildwood. Later he enjoyed traveling. He and his wife Carolyn went on several pilgrimages to places such as Medjugorje, Yugoslavia, Italy, France, the Holy Land, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Greece and Canada. They also traveled to many states including Hawaii and enjoyed several cruises.
Please pray for the repose of his soul and for the consolation of his family and friends. May he rest in the peace of Christ, the Risen Lord.
