Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, sent teachers into the beginning of a new Catholic school year with prayers and praise as he celebrated the Convocation Mass Aug. 9 at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica in Beaumont.
“You have a tremendous responsibility, a tremendous challenge,” Bishop Guillory said. “It’s why we call on the Holy Spirit to help you, to guide you.”
Bishop Guillory emphasized the value of teachers and the role they play in helping Catholic schools nurture the minds, hearts and wills of young people.
“The best teacher is one who gives a good example,” Bishop Guillory said. “I want to express my thanks and gratitude for the wonderful work that each and every one of you do in our schools.”
Following the Mass, teachers attended an in-service program in the St. Anthony parish center.
The first day of school begins Aug. 13.
