“The way I hear the call to serve is through other people,” said Darren Davis, a Beaumont native and political science professor at the University of Notre Dame, during the “The Call: Listen, Learn, Think, Pray and Act!” morning general session June 9 at the Unity Explosion Conference in San Antonio.
The session included Pam Harris, director of the Office of Black Catholics and Asian Ministry in the Diocese of Richmond, Va., and Father Roy Lee who teaches homiletics for the Archdiocese of Atlanta.
“Vocation is not just for the clergy,” Harris said about finding her life’s work. “Vocation is for everyone willing to follow and say yes. Vocation is my ministry and every day is a gift.”
Father Lee said when he was growing up it was his family that encouraged him while he listened for the call to serve.
“Have you ever thought about becoming a priest? What about going to the seminary?” he said they asked him.
The Unity Explosion conference provides experiences to address the leadership, liturgical, and evangelization needs of American Catholics of African descent.
