Good Friday – Marcy 29 On the Friday of the Passion of the Lord, Christ’s absence is felt as he was laid in the tomb. Mass is not celebrated. The Liturgy of the account of Christ’s Passion is read and intercessory prayers are offered for special intentions. The Veneration of the Cross - where parishioners go forward to venerate by kissing and touching the cross that has been carried into the church - takes place. Catholics in attendance can receive Holy Communion with hosts that were consecrated prior to Good Friday. The final journey of Jesus Christ to Calvary, the Stations of the Cross, from his praying in the garden of Gethsemane to his burial, is symbolically retraced.
