Bishop David L. Toups announced today that Sr. Bernadette Huong Nguyen will be joining the staff of St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica School in Beaumont as principal beginning in the 2022-23 school year. Sister Bernadette Nguyễn is a native Houstonian and a member of the Dominican Sisters of Mary Immaculate Province located in Houston, Texas. Sister Bernadette holds a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of St. Thomas and has taught in various grade levels. Sister Bernadette recently served in a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston as the Instructional Specialist and the Curriculum and Instruction Support coach. In addition, Sister Bernadette enjoys volunteering as a Confirmation catechist and she has a passion for learning new things and supporting teachers. She was privileged to be a “Rally Nun” and attended the 2021 World Series games to cheer on the Houston Astros, but most importantly, to bring the joy of Christ to the many Astros fans attending the games. Sister Bernadette said it is a great privilege and honor to be chosen to serve St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica School and looks forward to meeting her new school family. Current principal Mrs. Felicia Andrews-Runnels has served six years as principal and a total of 28 years educating students at the school. We are extremely thankful for her leadership and wish her well. St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica School, located in Beaumont, serves the entire Southeast Texas community. A pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade school, it was the first Catholic school founded in Southeast Texas when it began in 1895. It has been nationally recognized as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and the students are strong competitors in the Private Schools Interscholastic Association.
