Wasting Time Together by Bishop David L. Toups
A woman came to Him with an alabaster vial of very costly perfume, and she poured it on His head as He reclined at the table.
(Matthew 26:7)
The purpose of the Back to the Table initiative is to remind us to “waste time” with our families and with God.
The woman who anointed Jesus’ head was accused of throwing money away and being wasteful, yet what she did for Our Lord brought Him great comfort and joy as He knew His passion was drawing closer.
Taking the time to eat as a family or even time in church on Sunday might seem unproductive. Just think of how many more things you could be doing! Yet nothing is more precious than the gift of time you give one another by sitting down at a table together several days a week. This is where life is shared, stories are told, jokes are made, tears are shed, and even a few arguments may be had – but this is how we grow in relationship with one another and strengthen family life.
Similarly, our Sunday worship is where we grow in relationship with God and our community of faith. But what a seeming waste! You could be playing sports, going to the movies, or sleeping in! Jesus invites us to “waste time” with
Him and those we love, and that is truly time well spent!
Let’s get back to the table!

A Toups Family Recipe -- Baseball Night Supper
Baseball Night Dinner in the Toups' Home
Cook very low or it overcooks!
1 pound ground meat ¾ pound bacon, crumbled 1 cup chopped onion
2 cans pork & beans 1 tablespoon liquid smoke 1 teaspoon salt
1 can limas 1 can kidney beans 1 cup ketchup
¼ cup brown sugar 3 tablespoons white vinegar Dash pepper
Brown beef in skillet, cook bacon & sauté onions. Drain pot. Put all ingredients in a crock pot and stir. Cover and cook low 4-9 hours. Delicious & makes plenty
