We are saddened to learn of the passing of His Holiness, Pope Francis. Though we know he is in the loving hands of Our Lord, we will miss his ministry and leadership.
As the Pope who appointed me the bishop of Beaumont, I have a very special devotion to him. Pope Francis has inspired me personally to be more aware of the needs of the people on the peripheries of our society: the poor and homeless, the prisoner and neglected, the immigrant and the forgotten. For teaching us to live the Gospel of Matthew chapter 25, we will be forever grateful.
As is the tradition in the Catholic Church, we will remember Pope Francis in our prayers, both as individuals and when we gather in community at Mass, especially during these 9 days of mourning.
And let us also keep our Cardinals throughout the world in our prayers as they prepare to gather in the Sistine Chapel in a couple of weeks for the conclave to elect our next Pope.
Eternal rest grant unto Pope Francis O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all of the faithful departed, rest in peace.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
We should continue to move forward even when we make mistakes.
