Celebrating the feast of St. Joseph with a special altar is a tradition that centers on the entire family and honors the Holy Family – Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

Beginning in Sicily, as thanks for relief from a drought, the tradition has spread. One of the special customs calls for the selection of children and other parishioners to portray members of the Holy Family – Jesus, Mary and Joseph along with angels and favorite saints. The St. Joseph Altar serves as a reminder that those who have should share it with those who have less.
