“Today we are the body of Christ. I think you will be nourished. I think you will be spirited. As we gather this morning there is a wonderful visible example, not just of Christians, but of people of good will,” Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, said.
These were the words that opened the 2010 Stewardship Conference “Doers of the Word.” The conference was held at St. Jude Thaddeus, Beaumont, Jan. 24. Father Dan Mahan gave the opening keynote
“Stewardship is a way of life that would have us imitate the Lord Jesus in his generous self giving. When we do that we are growing in holiness. Holiness is the goal and stewardship is the way we get there,” Father Mahan said.
He emphasized increasing parish activity as a helpful step toward being a good steward.
“Taking part in more parish activities brings you closer to the Lord and closer to the church. When we take on this attitude of gratitude it does nothing but good. It’s not about the need of the church to receive; it’s about the need of the individual to give,” Father Mahan said.
“Stewardship and evangelization are like fraternal twins. Not identical but very similar and born of the same womb. Be passionate about getting involved. Figure out what your gift is and find that committee at your parish,” Father Mahan said.
Attendees experienced a number of workshops presented by out of town and local presenters and a noon concert by David Kauffman.
