Praying for immigration reform
On June 16, Catholics in Southeast Texas are invited to do one of the things they do best – pray.
Catholics are asked to gather at 7 p.m. June 16 at Cristo Rey Church, 767 Ave. A, Beaumont, to participate in a special Mass and vigil to pray that the nation’s leaders are open to God’s guidance as they deliberate immigration issues on June 17. President Barack Obama will be hosting a White House summit on immigration reform.
A petition for prayer sent out by the Justice for Immigrants office of the USCCB reads, “Please pray for our nation’s leaders as they meet tomorrow (June 17) to discuss the issue of immigration. We ask that God would guide their deliberations.”
Following recommendations of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, the diocesan Office of Hispanic Ministry is joining with Cristo Rey in sponsoring the Mass and vigil. All are invited to join in solidarity of prayer.
