New teachers get a crash course in Catholic schools

Before the kids head back to school a few new faces to Catholic schools attended their own class, so to speak. New teachers and principals in the Diocese of Beaumont participated in an orientation to get them ready for the school year.

Superintendent Nancy Collins led the orientation which contained information on everything from local schools to the hierarchy of the church.

“You are in the succession as lay ministers. It is our job to help the bishop bring these children to Christ and serve them in the best ways that we can,” Collins said.

She outlined the various roles in the schools, bringing insight from her time as a principal at St. Anne Catholic School, Beaumont.

“I think of my job as supporting the principals because I was a principal of a Catholic school, and I know how hard that is. I’m here to help you in any way possible,” Collins said.

Collins also bragged on the Catholic schools in the diocese and the dedication of the students to out do each other academically.

“There is a fierce competition to be the top five graduates. It’s just a different environment to teach in and to learn in,” Collins said.
