Mass opens school year for teachers and faculty

Teachers, faculty and staff of the Catholic schools of the Diocese of Beaumont joined together at St. Jude Thaddeus, Beaumont, for the convocation Mass for Catholic schools Aug. 13.

Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, celebrated Mass for the teachers, faculty and staff and thanked them for their continued service to the students of the diocese.

“You are shaping these students and hopefully they are strengthening their bond with Christ. You are showing a commitment and dedication and your love of teaching to these students,” Bishop Guillory said.

He mentioned the power of the classroom and of learning during his homily.

“There are so many distractions out there in the world. The classroom ought to be a transformative environment of love,” Bishop Guillory said.

Bishop Guillory closed his homily by speaking on the Year for Priests and reminding those in attendance of the opportunity they have to assist in vocations.

“We have wonderful priests on this diocese. They are hard working and dedicated. Talk to our young people about priesthood or religious life. The spirit may be prompting the hearts of these young people, but they need someone wise in the ways of the spirit to guide them,” Bishop Guillory said.

The new school year for the Diocese of Beaumont begins on Aug. 17.
