The Dominican Sisters of Houston have been a driving force in the Catholic schools of the Golden Triangle for more than a century, beginning with their service at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School, Beaumont, in 1895 and continuing today at Msgr. Kelly Catholic High School and St. Anthony School, Beaumont, and St. Mary School in Orange.

Those who have benefited from the ministry of the Dominicans have a unique opportunity to express gratitude and visit with the many sisters who will attend and remember those sisters who have died. There will also be the possibility of visiting with former classmates who wish to do the same thing.

A Golden Triangle Reunion celebrating the 125th anniversary year of the Houston Dominicans will be Jan. 20 at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica, 700 Jefferson St., Beaumont.

The sisters attending will celebrate Mass at the Cathedral Basilica at noon. Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, and Archbishop Joseph A. Fio-renza of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston will celebrate the Mass. A reception will follow in St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica Center at 1:30 p.m.

Dominican life revolves around the Word of God received in prayer and study, and the Word of God proclaimed in community and through preaching. Prayer, study, community and preaching are commonly referred to as the “four pillars” of the Dominican Order.

The sisters continue to minister in education, parish ministry, religious education, social services, campus ministry, counseling, hospital and port chaplaincy, medical, legal, family and women’s services, ministry with the aging, music and art, Guatemala mission, retreat work, community organizing, and refugee assistance.
