My dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

I am continually inspired by the faith and generosity of the people in Southeast Texas. You always respond with an open heart, and I am grateful for all that you do. We have worked together over this past several months in our Together for God’s Good Work capital campaign. These funds will provide for the future of our local Church and of our families’ faith.

So far almost $22.3 million has been pledged toward the $25 million goal. I want to thank all those who have made a pledge toward our campaign. Many of you have told me that despite the obstacles of a slowed economy and lasting effects of the hurricanes, you are dedicated to preserving a vibrant church in Southeast Texas and therefore have contributed generously. I greatly appreciate your support and the good work of all those throughout Southeast Texas who worked so diligently on this effort.

But although $22.3 million is a great deal of money, we are still short of the $25 million needed to completely address our needs. These needs include funds to care for our priests through the Infirm Priests’ Fund Endowment; to support our youth by enhancing the Endowments for Parish Youth Ministry, Parish Religious Education and Catholic School tuition assistance; to assist with emerging social service needs throughout Southeast Texas by enhancing a Catholic Charities Endowment; to enhance campus ministry at Lamar University; to provide for future needs for Holy Family Retreat Center; to provide a new Catholic Pastoral Center for ministry; as well as helping our parishes with their needs so that we might further the mission of Jesus in Southeast Texas.

The success of our campaign depends on each of us giving in proportion to the way we are blessed. If you have already made a pledge, consider increasing it. If you have not yet made a pledge, I ask you to consider a pledge payable over the next three to five years. If you are more comfortable making a one-time gift, that would be wonderful too.

Please prayerfully consider your resources asking for God’s guidance. If you are facing severe financial hardship, I understand. Your needs will be in my prayers. I do, however, continue to ask for your prayers for the success of this campaign.

Thank you for all that you do in living Christ’s message of faith in Southeast Texas and in sharing your time, talent and treasure. May the Holy Spirit bless you, your family and your parish.

Sincerely in Christ,

Most Rev. Curtis J. Guillory, S.V.D., D.D.
Bishop of Beaumont
